Philippe Druillet joins House of Gog

House of Gog presents Philippe Druillet. Three towering purple figures with yellow eyes flank a red central structure, with a spaceship rising below.

Philippe Druillet’s books loomed over our youth, shaping our taste in science fiction and art long before House of Gog existed.

Through his pages, we followed the odyssey of a red-eyed space corsair, rebel and outcast, defying cosmic forces and galactic tyrants across a cosmos of planet-sized megastructures and gods older than the stars. Druillet’s compositions broke free of the panel grid, giving his extraordinary universe a scale unlike anything else in comics.

Nearly three years ago, we set out to bring that universe into the world of collectibles. The result is an original art statue, developed in close collaboration with Druillet himself, who approved every stage from the sculpt to the final paintwork.

House of Gog is a Montreal workshop founded in 2018. We create strictly limited original art statues based on the work of underground and alternative artists,

The Druillet collaboration is a milestone in the story of House of Gog. Through our newsletter, we share new projects, artist collaborations, upcoming releases and occasional glimpses behind the scenes of the work that goes into each statue. Each Druillet reveal will be announced in the newsletter.

The journey back to the comics

Philippe Druillet has created some extraordinary bronze sculptures over the years. For this project, however, we wanted to take a different path, one that led back to the comics. True to the spirit of House of Gog, we wanted to bring his drawn universe to life, making his art leap off the page and take physical form as a statue.

A visit in Paris

On a recent trip to Paris, we presented Philippe Druillet with the finished prototype in his home studio. Spending those hours with the artist whose work has shaped our artistic sensibilities for decades was a defining moment for us, both as artists and as fans of his work.

To see him so taken with our interpretation of his work, and with the way we had brought one of his creations to life, was the greatest reward we could have hoped for.
